In this 90-minute class, you'll learn how Emmalee Rathsam discovered her artistic voice and how you can discover your own. Through creative exercises, photo projects, and practical strategies for developing a cohesive body of work, you’ll explore how to generate ideas, overcome resistance, experiment with new techniques, and create work that only you are called to create. Learn how to take your projects beyond the camera through exhibitions, open calls, and other opportunities to share your art with the world. You’ll leave with Emmalee’s workbook, which was designed to help you turn inspiration into action and continue creating meaningful work at home or in your studio.
EMMALEE RATHSAM
Emmalee Rathsam, M. Photog, CPP, is an award-winning fine art and commercial photographer based in Kansas City, Missouri. Represented by the Leopold Gallery, she is known for her surrealist approach to image-making. Rathsam’s work spans fine art, fashion, architecture, and portraiture. Born and raised in the Kansas City area, Rathsam’s passion for photography began with the fascination of watching images emerge in the darkroom. After 12 years operating a full-time portrait studio in Lawrence, Kansas, she opened her Kansas City, Missouri studio in 2024, shifting her focus toward fine art and commercial photography. In 2026, she earned the Icon Master designation from Icon International Photography Awards, received her Master of Photography degree from Professional Photographers of America, and represented the United States on Team USA in the World Photographic Cup, where the team took home the international title. As an educator, Rathsam hopes to inspire photographers to explore their creativity, discover their artistic voices, and leave with hands-on projects and practical tools they can use to pursue the work they feel called to create.
