Art in Motion: Breaking Into Dance Photography
Want to photograph dancers but have no idea where to start? This 90-minute class will take you through the process of breaking into dance photography and building a portfolio you’re actually proud to show. Angelica will walk you through how to start with a model call, what to look for when choosing dancers, and how to plan a session with intention. You’ll learn how to create different looks, communicate and guide your dancer, photograph movement, and work together to create images that highlight both their abilities and your style as a photographer. We’ll also talk about what makes a strong dance image, common mistakes to avoid when you’re just getting started, and how to use portfolio-building sessions to create a body of work that can help you attract more dancers and future clients. You don’t need to be a dancer or already understand every dance pose to get started. This class is about learning how to communicate, collaborate, create with purpose, and walk away with a dance photography portfolio you’re excited to share.

Angelica Page is the photographer and owner behind The Portrait Artist Studio in Warrensburg, Missouri. Originally from Colombia, Angelica has built her studio around her love for creating bold, beautiful portraits while helping everyday people feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Her work includes women’s portraiture, personal branding, seniors, dancers, and creative studio photography. Angelica is a PPA Master of Photography and has earned recognition through state and international photographic competitions, including being named a Top Photographer in Missouri. Angelica also loves sharing what she has learned with other photographers. She believes you don’t have to overcomplicate photography to create something powerful. Through posing, lighting, lens choice, and learning how to truly direct your subject, small changes can make a huge difference. Her goal when teaching is simple: keep it real, make it easy to understand, and give photographers tools they can actually take home and use with their own clients.
